Capitol - Wisconsin LegislatureThe Wisconsin Legislature may not be in session, but that doesn’t mean that there are no important activities taking place under the State Capitol Dome. The current Republican-dominated Wisconsin Legislature is discussing ways to replace local control of technical colleges by centralizing decision-making power in the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS).

The 2014 Legislative Council Study Committee on the Review of Wisconsin Technical College System Funding and Governance “is directed to review the current governance model of the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) in the interest of transferring governance responsibilities of local district boards to the state WTCS Board and examine the current funding model for the WTCS with a preference toward reassigning current local property tax revenue to a broader state tax source.”

Members of the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) office will be conducting a a Civil Rights Compliance Review at Madison Area Technical College on Thursday, March 6 and Friday, March 7, 2014

The purpose of the Civil Rights Review is to evaluate Madison College’s programs, services, and employment documentation as it relates to discrimination. WTCS team members will conduct interviews with employees and students; hold group meeting;, visit various departments and classrooms; and review materials, documents, and records related to student and employee non-discrimination policies; recruiting and hiring practices; grievance procedures; and other matters.

Members of Local 243 may be interested in attending the open session for MATC employees scheduled for 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2014 om the Truax Boardroom (AB122/130). The purpose of this session is to provide an opportunity for faculty and staff to express any comments or concerns related to discrimination and/or denial of services on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, and/or disability.
