Union organizing

MTI RecertifyMembers of Madison Teachers, Inc. (MTI) voted overwhelmingly to recertify their collective bargaining units. The Wisconsin Employment Relations Commission posted the vote totals on its website on November 25, 2014. Shortly thereafter, MTI posted the following announcement on its website: “All MTI bargaining units have successfully recertified in BIG NUMBERS! Over 85% of all eligible voters cast ballots in the recertification election. Of those who voted, over 98% voted to recertify.”

The large turnout was a testament to the hard work of over 200 MTI member organizers who reached out and engaged their colleagues in conversations about their union, according to MTI leaders, who also noted that, “The turnout is also a testament to the 3,734 MTI-represented employees who recognize that our public schools and our professions will be better served if we continue to ‘Stand Together.'”
