Internal Organizing Campaign

The reMember Campaign is underway thanks to a successful kick-off event at last week’s Convocation. Over the next weeks you’ll be hearing and seeing more about the campaign.

As a union for faculty and staff at MATC-Madison, Local 243 members know how important our roles are in delivering quality education to students and to the community as a whole. We need safe, equitable and secure working conditions in order to attract top people and to perform at our best.

Please take time to read our “10 Reasons to reMember” flyer, which is available as a PDF download. Leading the list is “We speak with one powerful voice to ensure the highest quality learning environment for our students and community.” Please share these reasons with coworkers and friends as the campaign moves forward.

Update (1/7/2014): The response to the first day of our reMember campaign was amazing! For those of you who didn’t have an opportunity to stop by the informational tables and talk with the stewards and Charles Peterson (the AFT Organizer working with our Local), they have agreed to be available again on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.  outside the Mitby and from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.  in the Cafeteria. Bring a friend and stop by when you have a few minutes!

A message from Local 243 President Marie Dusio: The reMember internal organizing campaign is off to a great start. If you’d like to learn more about this campaign, stop by the Local 243 information tables during convocation on Tuesday, January 7, 2014. Stewards, members, and AFT organizer Charles Peterson will be staffing the tables. Here’s where you can find them:

From 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. outside the Mitby Theater

From 11 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. in the Cafeteria at the Truax Campus.

All Local 243 members are invited to attend to next Stewards’ Meeting, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2013 in Room B1210 at the Truax campus. Plan to arrive early, since a free dinner will be served starting at 4:30 p.m. (yes, you may eat during the meeting).

Charles Peterson (our AFT organizer) will be at this meeting to kick off our Internal Organizing Campaign. Among other things, this campaign will expand the role stewards play in our local. Stewards will no longer serve as only grievance handlers: They will facilitate connections between and among members. Whether it is problem- solving, support, grievance handling, or sharing information, stewards will help to make sure Local 243 members are kept informed. [click to continue…]
