The Academic Quality Improvement Project (AQIP) of the Higher Learning Commission (which is part of the system that provides accreditation for educational institutions) recently sent Madison Area Technical College a copy of its Systems Appraisal Feedback Report. The report indicates that MATC has some issues that need to be addressed if it is to retain its accreditation.

Accreditation is very important for students; institutions; the public; and industry and government. For, instance, for students accreditation of the college they attend

  • Verifies that the quality of the educational experience received meets the standards of the profession.
  • Increases and enhances employment opportunities.
  • Permits and eases entry to a technical profession through licensure, registration, and certification.
  • Establishes eligibility for many federal student loans, grants, and/or scholarships.
