Local 243 History

April 15, 1916 – The American Federation of Teachers (AFT) is formed in Chicago, Illinois

1932 – City of Madison Vocational School Teachers Local 243 receives its charter from AFT

September 2, 1968 First negotiated collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between the Madison Area Technical College Teachers Union, Local 243, WFT, AFL-CIO and Area Board of Vocational, Technical and Adult Education District No. 4 goes into effect for the period covering September 2, 1968 through December 31, 1969. Omer Creydt is elected the first president of Local 243.
