All PSRP and full-time Faculty are invited to share their insights in preparation for the next Shared Governance Task Force (SGTF) meeting at a Shared Governance Task Force listening session from 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2014 in Room D2634 at the Truax Campus.

The Shared Governance Task Force meets weekly to develop the future shared governance structure for the college. Although Interest Based Problem Solving (IBPS) is the decision-making tool used by the SGTF (and will continue to be used in decision-making at the college), the SGTF is different from the “IBPS”/Contract Alternative Committee, which has been focused on college policies and procedures for the transition from more comprehensive collective bargaining agreements, as mandated by Act 10.

The Election Committee offered all candidates nominated and running for office in the Local 243 Spring 2014 Election the option to submit “Candidate Bios/Statements” for distribution to voters.

Sixteen candidates submitted bios/statements. These bios/statements are available as a seven-page PDF that may be downloaded from this website.

Please note, according to Election Committee officials who compiled this information, “Candidate Bios/Statements [are] listed in the order received.”

Local 243 will be electing union officers, forum representatives, delegates to the AFT and AFT-Wisconsin conventions, as well as to the South Central Federation of Labor (SCFL) this week. We will also be electing members of the bargaining team for each chapter.

The polls will open at 5 p.m. on Monday, April 28, 2014 and close at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014.

A list of nominees and details about the offices for which they are running is available as a PDF and may be downloaded from this website. These are the names and positions that will be on the ballot members will receive via email. Provisions for write-in candidates will also be made on the ballot.

Celebrate May Day (International Workers’ Day) by helping to “raise the roof at the Monona Terrace” at a rally in support of public education.

Join The Progressive magazine and other organizations for the “Rally to Defend Public Education.” The main event is at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center in Madison. It will be preceded by a pre-event networking social from 5:30 p.m. until 6:45 p.m .

The event will be headline by two compelling speakers: Chicago Teachers Union President Karen Lewis and John Kuhn, a Texas school superintendent. They have been fighting to save our public education system from the privatizers and profiteers in two diverse corners of America.
