A message from Local 243 President Mare Dusio: Looking for a pro-Union social event this Friday evening? Show Your Solidarity! Attend a Rally to ReMember with Ed Schultz on Friday, March 28, 2014 at the Alliant Energy Center.

We are continuing to fight back against the attacks on our rights and our communities by fighting forward! Let’s stand together as proud union members and supporters to reclaim the promise of living wages, safe workplaces. and strong labor laws. On March 28th we will reaffirm our commitment to supporting high-quality public education, strong public services, and democracy in Wisconsin.

This exciting rally will feature MSNBC TV personality Ed Schultz. Ed is a strong supporter of workers’ rights and has used his popular TV and talk radio shows as platforms to raise awareness about the attacks on working Wisconsinites.

Everyone is welcome – you don’t have to be a union member to attend!
Tickets are FREE, with a suggested donation of $10 to benefit the River Food Pantry and the AFT Local 243 scholarship fund for Madison Area Technical College students.

Big changes are in store for college football teams. On Wednesday, March 26, 2014 National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Regional Director, Peter Sung Ohr, issued a ruling granting Northwestern football players the right to unionize and directed an election to take place.

According to a lengthy analysis of the decision and its effects provided by SB Nation: “The results of the election will determine whether the football team will be represented by the College Athletes Players Association. A Sports Illustrated legal expert said that they are nearly certain to get the number of votes needed to establish the union. From there, the union would be entitled to collectively bargain with Northwestern over the players’ benefits.”
