The MATC Administration has proposed a Degree Credit Calendar for 2014-2015 that calls for several significant changes from our recent practice, especially regarding the length of semester-length classes and final exams.

On Monday, August 26, 2013 all Local 243 Full Time Faculty members will receive an e-mail letter from Wayne Sigelko, one of your union representatives on the Academic Calendar Committee, explaining the changes and requesting that they participate in an anonymous survey to offer their input on these changes.

If you do not receive a copy of the Sigelko e-mail letter and/or a copy of the e-mail from BigPulse (our election software) explaining how you can “vote” in the survey, please contact a union representative promptly, since surveys must be completed and returned by noon on Friday, August 30, 2013.

PDF copies of both the Sigelko e-mail letter and the proposed Degree Credit Calendar for 2014-2015 are also archived on this website.

Enjoy free music, good food, cold drinks, and solidarity with other union members from throughout the area at the annual South Central Federation of Labor (SCFL) Laborfest from noon until 5:30 p.m. on Monday, September 2, 2013 at the Madison Labor Temple, 1602 South Park Street.

The afternoon’s activities include music by by Chris Plata & Extra Hot at 12:30 p.m. and the Cashbox Kings at 3:15 p.m. There are lots of other free, fun activities for the whole family, including face painting, magic shows, and a bounce house.

Sometimes it takes a while to put the pieces of “old news” together, but Wisconsin State Journal columnist Chris Rickert has done so in a masterful way today.

It’s not breaking news that former MATC President Bettsey Barhorst will be making $88,000 for making herself “generally available to consult to the Board and new President in regard to College matters for the transition period” or that the new welcome center has been named “the Bettsey L. Barhorst Welcome Center,” but Rickert has asked some of the questions and made some of the points that may have been on a lot of minds, but not expressed aloud.

For instance, Rickert notes that, “Unless there’s also some kind of secret, college president batcave that Barhorst needs to introduce Daniels to, her continued role at the college is puzzling to those of us non-consultants who aren’t guaranteed $88,000 over the course of 41/2 months (much less 12), regardless of how much work we do.”
