Local 243 movie night on Friday features a free screening of “At the River I Stand” documentary

February 20, 2013

Local 243 will host a free screening of “At the River I Stand” at 7 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2013 in Room 142B of the Main Building on the Truax campus.

“At the River I Stand” is award-winning documentary chronicling the Memphis, Tennessee Sanitation Workers’ Strike in 1963.

You may have seen the famous photos of the sanitation workers wearing “I AM A MAN” sandwich boards during the strike. Many remember the strike because Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was there to address the strikers on the day he was assassinated, but there’s much more to the story.
