A message from Local 243 President Marie Dusio:

Madison College has informed Local 243 that they will be publishing a Request for Proposals (RFP) to seek contracted (non-college) services for the Downtown, Commercial Avenue, West, South Madison and Tech 1 locations. College custodial employees currently working at Downtown and Commercial Avenue will relocate to the Truax-area buildings (Wright Street and new buildings). Our Local is working with AFT-Wisconsin staff to address this issue.

Madison College has informed Local 243 that they will be publishing a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the contracting out of custodial work in the new buildings, West, and South campuses. Our Local is working with AFT-Wisconsin staff to address this issue.

A message from Local 243 President Marie Dusio:

Solidarity means we also stand with our union brothers and sisters in times of great sorrow. Condolences and messages of support for the students, staff, teachers, families, and residents of Newtown, Connecticut may be sent to the AFT locals — Newtown Federation of Education Personnel (Local 3785), Newtown Federation of Custodians (Local 3924) and Newtown Federation of Teachers (Local 1727).

Update (12/19/2012): The General Membership meeting on January 9, 2013 will be held in Room 142C.

Please mark your calendar and plan to attend our next General Membership meeting on Wednesday, January 9, 2013. The meeting will be called to order after the last Convocation session ends (about 4 p.m.). We will inform you about the location and a precise time for the meeting once the Convocation schedule is finalized and the room is confirmed.

Please note that Local 243 expects that Madison College will provide information about the dates for moves into the new buildings and the back-filling of the Truax building during Convocation.

Local 243 and Madison College leaders are meeting to discuss the possibility of successor contracts. We have agreed to only solve problems which are defined, as well as to identify practices which should continue, regardless of the type of contractual relationship state law permits. The next meeting is Monday, December 17, 2012.
